Loud Call - Capable Mimic - Highly Social
The Salmon-crested Cockatoo is among the largest of the white cockatoos. It inhabits lowland rainforests in Indonesia, typically in ranges below 1,000 meters. With its white-pink feathers and peachy glow, it is a striking bird with a retractable crest, which it raises when threatened to frighten attackers. The Salmon-crested Cockatoo is a highly sociable species that is found in flocks of around 16 (a number that used to be much larger before species decline). A scavenger of berries, nuts, seeds, and coconuts, this bird tends to be anemic due to the lack of protein in its diets.
